Lansing, Mich. – The Great Lakes Sports Commission has named Eric Marvin, a 15-year veteran in the sports tourism and economic development industry, to lead the organization as executive director.
Marvin is currently the executive director of the Evansville Regional Sports Commission in southwest Indiana. During his tenure serving the tri-state, he secured 20+ championship events and guided development task forces resulting in the development of a new aquatic center and indoor sports complex.
Marvin was formerly the director of sports tourism for the Columbus Area Tourism Commission. Under his leadership, the organization was named Sports Commission of the Year by the Independent Sports Association. Marvin also received individual honors from Indiana Soccer and the American Junior Golf Association for outstanding leadership.
Marvin been an active leader of Indiana’s statewide sports tourism initiative in partnership with the Indiana Sports Corporation. As a founding board member of Sports Indiana, Marvin helped start the organization in 2008 and has since then served as an executive committee member, officer, and grant committee chairman.
Marvin is eager to build on the initial efforts of the GLSC board and believes that there is great opportunity to advance the region through ongoing venue development, regional marketing, and events. “After meeting with the board and local partners, I was impressed by the enthusiasm and passion for enhancing quality of life in the region through sports development. The investments the GLSC has already made will drive significant long-term impact and I look forward to working with the board, stakeholders, and industry partners to drive continued growth in collaboration with the communities in the Upper Peninsula and northern Michigan,” said Marvin.
The Great Lakes Sports Commission (GLSC) serves the 36-county Upper Peninsula and northern-lower Michigan region. As a non-profit, the organization’s mission is to promote Michigan as a premier destination for recreation, sports, and tourism. Marvin and the GLSC board are excited to relentlessly work together to advance opportunities and grow the region for a healthier and more prosperous tomorrow.

Marvin will begin in his role with the GLSC in January of 2023.
