The Great Lakes Sports Commission has awarded a $150,000 Infrastructure Development Grant to support major 2026 improvements at the Wexford Civic Center in Cadillac.
The investment will help replace the auditorium floor with a durable, all-purpose sports surface designed to accommodate a wide variety of athletic events, recreational activities and community programming. Grant funding will also support renovations to the event-side lobby and restrooms, improving the experience for athletes, spectators, families and event organizers.
Expanding what the Wex can host
Known throughout the region as “The Wex,” the county-owned complex includes a regulation-size ice arena and a 20,000-square-foot auditorium. The facility hosts youth and adult hockey, public skating, basketball, pickleball, tournaments, trade shows, community celebrations and other large gatherings.
The new multipurpose flooring is an especially important part of the renovation. By creating a more adaptable playing and event surface, the auditorium will be better positioned to serve existing users while attracting new tournaments, activities and special events to Wexford County.
