SUMMARY:Bay Shore Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 1983 by local running enthusiasts who wanted to share the beauty of the Grand Traverse Region and the Old Mission Peninsula\, the Bayshore Marathon has become a “must run” for runners throughout the Midwest and beyond. SUMMARY:Mud\, Sweat & Beers Fat Tire Fest
DESCRIPTION:Come out and support a great cause – all proceeds go to Mt. Holiday Recreation Area and other local non-profit organizations that support kids. And why did we choose Mt. Holiday? Not only is it one of Traverse City’s best-kept secrets (the wood-fired stove in the cozy bar…local beers…great food) but it also helps disadvantaged kids get off their couches and on the ski/snowboard hill. As a 501(c)3\, Mt. Holiday provides free lessons\, rentals\, and more to school-age kids who utilize their school’s free lunch program. It’s a safe\, fun place for kids who might not otherwise have anywhere to go during the winter.

SUMMARY:Klondike Canoe/Kayak Challenge\, April 1 & Klondike Run/Walk Challenge (5K/10K)
DESCRIPTION:The Klondike Challenge originated in the 1970’s as a race on the AuSable River in Grayling\, but the event was moved to Oscoda’s Van Etten Creek in 1996.  The Klondike marks the “Season Kickoff” for the Michigan Canoe Racing season – Paddlers and race fans use the event to catch-up with race friends after a long winter offseason\, and to get a sneak peek at the racers for the upcoming season (or to see who has been training during the winter!).  Originally a race held in late January or February\, it is now held annually in late winter or early spring.  In recent years\, the Klondike Challenge has become an AuSable River Canoe Marathon fundraising event\, incorporating a 5K/10K Run/Walk into the weekend’s festivities.

SUMMARY:Klondike Challenge Canoe Race and Klondike Run/Walk 5K
DESCRIPTION:The Klondike Challenge 5K Run/Walk & 10K Run is a Fundraiser for the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. The Klondike marks the “Season Kickoff” for the Michigan Canoe Racing season\, and serves as a friendly\, spirited sprint event before the MCRA’s Annual Spring Membership Meeting.  Paddlers and race fans use the event to catch-up with race friends after a long winter offseason\, and to get a sneak peek at the racers for the upcoming season (or to see who has been training during the winter!).  Originally a race held in late January or February\, it is now held annually in late winter or early spring.  In recent years\, the Klondike Challenge has become an AuSable River Canoe Marathon fundraising event\, incorporating a 5K/10K Run/Walk into the weekend’s festivities.  The event is organized by the AuSable River International Canoe Marathon Committee\, and hosted in conjunction with the Michigan Canoe Racing Association.  Paddlers and runners of all ages and talent levels are welcome to enter.

SUMMARY:SNO*DRIFT RALLY
DESCRIPTION:Sno*Drift has been the traditional opening of the U.S. rally season since 1997. This rally forces the competitors to hit the ground running\, as it is one of the most challenging rallies on the calendar. What began in 1973 as part of the SCCA Performance Rally series\, has become one of the most famed rally events in North America. This is in large part due to it being one of the only snow rallies in the world to not allow teams the use of studded tires- Michigan State law prohibits it. \nIn addition to the challenge of running non-studded tires\, competitors face off against the fiercely dynamic weather conditions created by the rally’s proximity to the Great Lakes. Sno*Drift is also home to the famed “Bonfire Alley” special stage. This is a night stage where the entire length of the road is lined with bonfires built by the spectators. It’s a unique and sensational sight to experience. Sno*Drift was named Rally of the Year in 2005\, 2011\, and 2012. To find out more\, visit ARA-Rally.com.
